Smartcool Systems Inc. is pleased to announce the successful completion of an ECO3 air conditioning energy efficiency pilot project for Internet Solutions, a division of the  Dimension Data, NTT group. This 18-month pilot project achieved 14% energy savings with Smartcool’s ECO3 installed on 11 air conditioning units in two South African data centers.  Internet Solutions is looking at the potential to reduce their electricity bill by $156,000 USD each year with a rollout to their other 140 air conditioning units, giving them a return on investment in less than 12 months. A story I missed late last week: SuperRewards, the pioneer of virtual currency for social and mobile games, has been acquired by Vancouver’s Playerize. Founded in 2007, SuperRewards quickly became a leading monetization service for online, free-to-play games. The company was acquired in 2009 by Adknowledge, one of the world’s largest ad marketplaces. Jason Bailey, the principal founder, continued with Adknowledge and served as the GM of Games and Virtual Currency for two years, before leaving in 2011 to found East Side Games. DHX Media Ltd. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the business of Cookie Jar Entertainment to create Canada’s largest children’s entertainment company. The combined company will own the world’s most extensive independent library of children’s entertainment, including more than 8,550 half hour episodes.  The transaction implies an enterprise value for Cookie Jar of $111 million, to be paid through a combination of approximately 36 million DHX shares, $5 million in cash, and the assumption of $66 million of debt. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today a contribution of more than $6.9 million to 28 innovative, interactive digital media content and software application companies that applied for funds as part of the Experimental Stream’s development and marketing programs.  More than $4 million was distributed amongst 19 projects receiving development support and more than $2 million amongst the 9 projects receiving marketing support. Shift Networks, a Calgary-based provider of hosted telephone solutions for small and medium sized businesses, announced today that it has launched enterprise level on-demand conferencing solutions at a price point of 20 to 80 percent less than comparable providers in the Canadian marketplace.  Shift has chosen to partner with US company ACT Conferencing, a conferencing provider that manages millions of conferencing minutes per month and provides on-demand conferencing services to companies of all sizes.
