Tim Hortons helped make history today, playing host to the first Canadian mobile credit card transaction. Canadian Olympic Triathlete Simon Whitfield purchased a Tim Hortons coffee at a downtown Toronto restaurant using a Rogers BlackBerry smartphone and CIBC credit card account. Now Tim Hortons guests, who are clients of CIBC and Rogers, will be able to pay for their favourite coffee, breakfast or lunch without ever opening their wallet. Read the rest of this entry »

On October 12, 2012, HootSuite reached 5 million signups. Who uses HootSuite (I do), and where in the world can they be found? The company has put together a new infographic that illustrates its journey to-date, and to see what five million looks like. The Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN) announced today that two more digital media innovation centres have joined the CDMN’s cross-Canada network to enable collaboration and advance digital innovation nationally. The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre in northern Ontario, and Tech SouthEast in Moncton, New Brunswick become the newest nodes on the CDMN network, bringing the total number across Canada to 12 nodes with 20 locations. The CDMN has ambitious expansion plans for the network, and intends to sign additional nodes west of Ontario before the end of the year. Key members of Canada’s business and enterprise sectors have joined Startup Canada’s leadership team as it prepares to launch its national strategy to support entrepreneurship in Canada. A new Board and two new advisory councils – a National Advisory Council and a Government, Industry and Academic Advisory Board – will strengthen the voice of entrepreneurs at the heart of the organization and engage additional stakeholders from Canada’s economic ecosystem.
