The Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) is in Ottawa to advocate for improvements to the patent and trade-mark systems in Canada. Data & Audio-Visual Enterprises Holdings Inc. and its affiliates (collectively, “Mobilicity“) has obtained two orders of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List) authorizing Mobilicity to, among other things, call and hold meetings at which two arrangements will be voted on by debt holders pursuant to the Canada Business Corporations Act. Mobile security and risk management solutions provider Fixmo has announced its collaboration with the U.S. Air Force (USAF) to enable secure mobile communications and access to mission-critical applications from a range of smartphones and tablets. Fixmo and the USAF will further its collaboration under a newly established Co-operative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the 688^th IOW, which will focus on the development and deployment of advanced mobile security and attestation technologies to enable trusted mobile computing in the field on a wide range of mobile devices. The Canada Media Fund announced today that the Convergent Digital Media Incentive (CDMI) for English language projects is now closed due to a high number of eligible applications received. The CMF will no longer be accepting applications from applicants who wish to receive funds for their English language digital media component from this incentive. Online store ecommerce platform developer Shopify  has announced the winners of its third “Build-A-Business Competition.” During the 8-month competition period, over 10,000 entrepreneurs created new online businesses that sold over $55 million in products. Grand prizes are awarded to shops with the highest sales over a two-month period. Shopify partnered with Timothy Ferriss (The 4-Hour Workweek), Daymond John (Shark Tank, FUBU), Tina Roth Eisenberg (swissmiss) and Eric Ries (The Lean Startup), to offer each of the winners a $50,000 US investment in exchange for a 5% equity stake in their company.
