Toronto developer DrinkBox StudiosIndependent Toronto developer DrinkBox Studios, creator of Guacamelee!, Mutant Blobs Attack and About a Blob, is pleased to give gamers a look at its newest game. Severed, which is slated for release in spring 2015,  follows the saga of a distraught warrior lost in a fantastical world. As she knits together pieces of her story from both the past and the future, the heroine will embark on a journey through a surreal, nonlinear world by using a gesture-based combat mechanic to defeat enemies in this first-person adventure. With the cancellation of Arctic Air, it is very apparent that the CBC does not listen to its viewers – the ones who pay the tax dollars that help keep the lights on. Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been keeping an eye on Arctic Air’s Facebook page. The number of Likes for the show went from 20 300 on March 17th to 21 063 as of a few minutes ago (that could change while I’m writing). Yes, that is only a total increase of 763, and most of those have come in the last few days, but almost every single comment on that Facebook page speaks the same theme: Please don’t cancel Arctic Air. CBC’s Facebook staff have not replied to a single comment. Ignoring your audience is not viewer engagement, something the executives continually tout about. Read the rest of this entry »

Telefilm Canada wishes to inform its clients of the Production Program of the Canada Feature Film Fund that they have until April 18 to submit their funding applications for French-language projects with budgets less than $2.5 million. After that date, the Program, unfortunately, will be closed for the rest of the 2014-2015 fiscal year. The Production Program for French-language projects with budgets less than $2.5 million opened its doors on March 21. A new Nintendo Direct video has revealed numerous details about the upcoming Super Smash Bros. video games for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems. At the start of the video, series creator Masahiro Sakurai announced that the launch of the Nintendo 3DS version of the game is planned for this summer, with the Wii U version planned for winter 2014. Both games will be available in stores and in the Nintendo eShop for their respective platforms. Sakurai also detailed many of the stages and items in both versions, described the games’ online functionality, revealed a new mode exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS version and announced fan-favourite Greninja, a Pokémon from the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games, as a new playable character. Montreal indie studio Spearhead Games has announced that the studio will demo Project Cyber and host its first tournament at the Unreal Engine Epic Booth #1147 at PAX East. Project Cyber is a physics-based competitive game where champions compete in 3-vs-3 soccer-inspired battles in a cyberpunk world. Spearhead has opened up the entire development process to the community, and more than 50,000 players have already requested Steam keys to share their feedback and see the game progress.
