Method, a high-growth Toronto-based startup and creator of the number one-rated CRM app on the Intuit Partner Platform, has just completed a deal for $3 million in Series A funding. Backed by Klass Capital, a North American VC supported by a $40 billion pension fund, the new investment will enable Method to engage in what it calls extreme product development: that is, a complete redesign of its platform so it fully integrates with Intaact, Wave, Xero, FreshBooks and other top accounting and SMB applications. This year, more than 145 scripts were nominated for awards. First-round judging put forward 29 finalist scripts across the Awards’ seven categories, with 37 screenwriters up for awards. Find out who will take home the trophies on April 22nd, 2013 when the Writers Guild of Canada presents the 2013 Screenwriting Awards at Toronto’s Uniun Nightclub. After decades of playing second fiddle to the No. 1 video game hero, Luigi is getting some love from Nintendo. Nintendo has named 2013 the “Year of Luigi,” thanks to the numerous appearances that Mario’s timid, green-clad twin brother will be making in games this year. In a Nintendo Direct video, Nintendo provided details about games on the way that feature Luigi, as well as information about more than two dozen upcoming games, including content for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS across packaged and digital formats. Announcing Flying Helmet Games, Vancouver’s newest independent game studio, which opened their doors in the fall of 2012. With funding through the Canada Media Fund and private investment, they are hard at work producing their first game for Next-Gen Tablet PCs. At the helm are Project Director Edward J Douglas and Lead Developer Scott Penner, who have worked together for years on some of the industry’s biggest titles. Fan Expo Vancouver returns to the Vancouver Convention Centre this April 20-21, 2013. Coming off an amazing inaugural year with nearly 17,000 attendees, Comicon Hollywood North is taking the celebration of pop culture to a new level in 2013. Corus Entertainment’s YTV is launching a brand-new original competition show, Cache Craze, to debut on Saturday, March 9 at 6 p.m. The 10 x 60-minute series is a high-octane family treasure hunt inspired by the global phenomenon of Geocaching—an emerging GPS-aided game where teams search for hidden caches. In each episode of Cache Craze, family teams of two search for virtual caches that can only be unlocked after they climb, crawl and jump through over-the-top outdoor obstacles. Bell Aliant customers, partners, employees, families and friends came together and have set a new Guinness World Records title for the Most people sending a text message simultaneously in support of mental health on Bell Let’s Talk Day. More than 1,072 people turned out at the Halifax Metro Centre, joined by CTV personality Seamus O’Regan.
