Members of industry, government and academia gathered April 24-25 in Stratford for the fourth annual CDMN Canada 3.0 2012 digital media forum, to accelerate the Moonshot goal that anyone in Canada can do anything online by 2017. Emerging companies OpenEra of Ottawa, Qwalify from Waterloo Region, and XYZ Interactive of Toronto left the forum tops in a field of 50 companies in the Road to Banff® Pitch-Off competition. Another entrepreneur, Hannah Chapplain, the first musician to present her business as a digital media entrepreneurial venture in the Road to Banff competition, reached her funding goal of $25,000 at the event. On the eve of an exceptional year for Canadian coproduction at this year’s Cannes Film Festival (May 16-27, 2012), Telefilm Canada announces that the five-year total (2006 to 2010) for the volume of Canadian feature film treaty coproduction budgets amounts to $1.02 billion. This total includes the domestic and foreign budgets of 111 Canadian feature film international coproductions. Canadian feature film coproductions also earned 165 awards from around the world in the same time period, most notably the Canada-France title Incendies (2011) and the minority Canadian Polish-German feature In Darkness(2012) were Oscar nominees for Best Foreign-Language Film.
